Carpenter Bees come out around late spring or summer and fly around the outside of your home around the wood. They are searching for mates and sites to construct their nest. Male carpenter bees can be quite aggressive and hover around people who are in front of their nests. They are harmless since they do not have a stinger but female carpenter bees do have a stinger and can if they are handled or molested. They prefer to tunnel into wood to lay their eggs and commonly nest in siding, window trim, outdoor furniture, or eaves. Carpenter bees attack wood that is bare, weathered, and unpainted.
Wasps, Hornets, and Yellow Jackets are very dangerous and the nests need to be eliminated as soon as possible and as carefully as possible. Hundreds of people in the United States have a severe allergic reaction to the venom from a sting and die each year.

They are primarily nocturnal like mice are and have poor eyesight.

Termites
Termites are very destructive creatures that feed on wood inside the home and they do not come out into the open. Termites cause over $5 billion in damage to homes within the United States which is a major concern. Over the counter pest sprays that you find in a local hardware store are not effective in termite treatment. The best defense for stopping termites from destroying your home is an effective termiticide treatment applied by a Womack Pest Management Professional.
Termites are well hidden creatures that thrive in dark, moist conditions such as soil. They leave their environment once a year in order to mate. This process is known as “swarming.” Once they successfully mate they look for a new location to nest and feed. Termites feed on cellulose materials and one in particular, wood.
Termites live in large interdependent colonies consisting of about 250,000 to one million or more termites. At the center of the colony is the queen and king whose main purpose is reproduction. The worker termites have a role to collect food to feed the entire colony. The termites probe through the soil until they come into contact with food source. This is known as “random foraging.” Once the food source is located they build a path to start their system of transporting food back to their colony. They do not expose themselves to the air or light which makes it tough to detect them during feeding. They build themselves tubes of soil particles in order to keep themselves protected when crossing through concrete. Many termites travel back and forth from the food source to the nest, working as interdependent units relying on each other for survival.
It is estimated that Americans spend millions of dollars treating and repairing damage caused by termite infestation. A Womack Pest Control Professional can come out to your home for a free inspection and let you know how we can help to get the termites under control.

Ticks
Ticks are vectors of debilitating and life-threatening diseases such as Lyme disease. It is the number one arthropod-borne disease in the United States. Lyme disease is a serious bacterial infection transmitted through a tick bite on a human or animal. If it is untreated it could lead to life-threatening health complications. Early symptoms of Lyme disease are very similar to the flu which is why seeking a physician early after being bitten by a tick is key.
Ticks live in the woods, tall grass, bushes, and weeds. They attach to suitable hosts as they pass by including pets and people. Treating yards for ticks, preferably in the spring and summer months can be very helpful in minimizing tick presence. You can do this by contacting a Womack Pest Management Professional.

Mice
Mice can be extremely difficult to control especially during the winter months. Mice migrate indoors during the cold months in search of warmth, food, and shelter. Surprisingly, they cause significantly more damage than rats do by contaminating food and other household items that are contaminated from droppings or damaged from gnawing. Mice also have the ability to chew through electrical wires and appliances which can be highly dangerous. They can also transmit bacterial diseases by contaminating your food with their feces. They are nocturnal so homeowners rarely see them except for seeing their droppings or hearing their sounds. It is important to have a Womack Pest Management Professional come out to inspect your home for mice and let you know how to get control of your mice issue.
